Choose the right level of detail
Mapping Alaska by regional area
Alaska uses boroughs and census areas rather than counties. Its huge distances and separated communities make a regional overview useful, but a coloured area should not be read as a promise of road access or a practical delivery route.
Use the original PDF for an overview and check the boundary note before matching it to modern data. The separate Alaska ZIP map is another way to show coverage, but neither county-equivalent areas nor postal boundaries are a measure of travel time.

How do I download the free Alaska county map?

Does Alaska have counties?
Alaska has 30 county-equivalent areas in the 2025 Census Gazetteer, including boroughs and census areas. Alaska does not have counties. The original free map is older artwork and includes Valdez-Cordova, which was later divided into Chugach and Copper River census areas.
Can I colour the boroughs and census areas and add my own key?

What does access to the county maps cost?
One state costs £25 + VAT for 12 months. Buy your selected states together, or choose all 50 state county maps for £150 + VAT. Existing state access is excluded from the selected-state price. You can load and customise maps in trial mode before buying.
Can I use these maps for navigation or legal boundary checks?
No. These are visual reference and planning maps, not navigation, surveying or legal boundary records. A copyright year does not identify the date of the underlying boundaries. Check an authoritative source for decisions that depend on an exact boundary, or ask GBMaps about a particular area.
