Showing or Hiding Map Features

changing map features

It’s possible to customize the look of a map by showing more detail or hiding detail.

Map Outlines and Borders

Area borders are the boundary lines that divide postcode areas, the larger postcode areas on a map.

District borders are the boundaries between the smaller postcode districts which divide the larger area shapes.

The border switches in this dialog will show or hide the postcode borders, the sliders will increase the thickness of the border lines. As a map is zoomed in to show more detail the boundary lines can become too thick. With these sliders it’s possible to reduce the thickness to ensure the map is clear and easy to read.

Postcode & Town Labels

Any text you see on a map can be made visible or invisible depending on your requirements. You can show or hide some or all city and town names along with their corresponding dots (signifying the position of the town or city centre on the map). Sometimes you might not want to show all the cities and towns on map, you can switch the various levels of town label detail off and just show the Major Towns and corresponding dots. You can set the colour of the town and city labels in the colour customization panel.

Countries and Regions

It might be necessary to hide a whole portion of the country. This can be done by switching that area off using the appropriate toggle switch. Switching a portion of the country ‘off’ or hiding it will also hide the town names, town dots and any other information associated with that area. The information is not deleted, it is merely hidden from the map. The background colour of the map loads a light blue sea colour by default. If you hide parts of the country it is sometimes a good idea to change the sea colour to white, otherwise it may look like Scotland is an Ireland floating in the middle of the sea (for instance).
