Images: add a logo, photograph or illustration

Add a recognisable logo, a depot photograph or an illustration. Keep it fixed to the printed page, or attach it to the map so it moves with that location. Try it without signing in; an active map licence is needed to save it in your account.

   Drop an image or choose a file

   Open Images in the left menu. Drop a PNG, JPEG or WebP file into the marked box, or use Choose images. You can add several files together, up to five images on a map. Each file must be no larger than 3 MB. If a very large or heavily compressed picture cannot be prepared within that limit, resize it before trying again.

   Choose the picture to edit

   Click a picture directly on the map to select it. Its dotted blue frame and four corner handles appear, and the Images controls open automatically. You can start dragging it straight away. You can also choose its name or thumbnail in the list, which is handy if pictures overlap. New images are selected as soon as you add them.

   Move and resize

   Drag a picture to move it. Drag a blue corner to resize its frame. Hold Shift to keep its proportions; a circular frame does this automatically. Resizing crops the picture rather than stretching it. Scroll over the map to zoom; a map-fixed image follows the map and a page-fixed image stays put.

   Keep it on the page or with the map

   Choose Page for a company logo or photograph that should stay in the same place and at the same size while you pan and zoom. Choose Map for artwork that belongs to a particular location: it then moves and scales with the map. Switching between the two preserves the image’s current position and size. Each image has its own setting, saved with the map.

   Choose which part of the picture shows

   Increase Crop zoom to bring the subject closer. Crop left / right and Crop up / down move the picture inside its frame. These sliders change the crop, not the frame position. Reset crop returns to the centred, fitted picture without moving or resizing the frame.

   Choose the shape and border

   Choose Rectangle or Circle. Frame colour and Thickness control the outline. A thickness of 0 removes it. Transparent parts of a PNG or WebP let the map show through; the tool does not add a white box behind them.

   Hide, finish editing or remove

   Untick Show to hide a picture without losing its crop or position. Tick it again to bring it back. Finish editing images removes the handles. Remove takes that image off this map; it does not delete the picture from another saved copy. Undo can restore an item you removed.

   Save privately and download

   Save stores the image privately in your account together with the map’s position, page/map setting, crop, visibility and frame. A saved copy can reuse the same image with a different layout. PDF, SVG, PNG, JPG and PowerPoint downloads include the image itself, so the recipient does not need to sign in to see it. Wait for images to finish loading before exporting.
