Notifications: the bell and System messages

The bell opens messages from GBMaps about your account, service updates and support. Sign in to see your messages. An unread count helps you spot new ones; you can return to earlier messages later.

  1. Find the bell

When signed in, look for the bell beside Help in the map’s top controls. On account and team pages it appears with the account controls. Its position adapts to smaller screens. New messages show a count and the bell may animate; a still bell can still be opened to read earlier messages. The assistant’s Show me where can highlight the bell without opening a message.

  2. Open System messages

Choose the bell. The System messages window lists message headings and dates, with New beside unread messages. It opens a new message first when one is available. Expand another heading to read it. Reading an expanded message updates the unread count; opening the bell can therefore reduce the count.

  3. Follow a message’s next step

A message can be an Account update, Personal support or Service notice. Read its text first. If it contains an Open button, choose it to visit the relevant page. Not every message needs action, and not every message has a link. This inbox is not a reply form: use Contact GBMaps for a reply or continue an active support conversation in the map assistant.

  4. Read earlier messages

Use Older and Newer at the bottom to move between pages. Refresh messages checks for updates without closing the window. Read messages remain available in your list until removed or no longer available. Close with × to return to your map. Closing the window does not remove messages.

  5. Remove a read message

After reading a message, use its small × button, labelled Remove from my messages, if you no longer want it in the list. This removes that notification from your list; it does not cancel a purchase, remove team access or change your map. Keep a useful message until you have finished with it.

  6. If there is no bell or no new message

Check that you are signed in to the intended account. Visitors do not have an account inbox. If you have signed in but the list has not updated, open the bell and use Refresh messages. A count of zero or You’re all caught up means no unread messages in the list; it does not mean your access has expired. Contact GBMaps if you expected a specific account update.

  7. Notifications and live assistant support

The bell’s System messages and a person joining your assistant chat are different. A named GBMaps helper can appear in the assistant and talk with you there; AI pauses while they help and resumes when they finish. A bell notification is a message to read, not the start of a live conversation. There is no promise that staff are watching every chat or available immediately.
