Your first password: keep your existing maps
If you have used GBMaps for years by entering only your email address, you still have the same account. You do not need to register again or pay again to set a password. We first check that you can receive email at that address, so somebody else cannot claim your maps just by knowing it.
Start with your existing account email
Choose Log in in the sidebar, enter your existing account email in the small email box, then press its Log in button. In the sign-in dialog, choose Set or reset my password and check the address. You can also begin from the first sign-in box by leaving the password blank and choosing Continue to my maps.
Email my verification code
Click once to request a six-digit code. Keep this tab open and check that inbox, preferably in your email app or another tab. You do not need to enter a mobile number or wait for an SMS. If an error says no code was sent, stay here and follow that message.
Enter the six digits in the same browser
Return to the Check your email box, enter the code and choose Check my code. It lasts 60 minutes and belongs to the browser where you requested it. The Email verification codes topic explains resending, incorrect codes and expired codes.
Choose your password
After the code is accepted, the heading changes to Make this account yours. Choose a password of 8–50 characters; several words can make it easier to remember. Click Save my password. Your saved maps, colours and licences are kept as they are.
Sign in after saving the password
The message Your password is saved confirms that setup succeeded. Enter the password you have just chosen and click Continue to my maps. Setting a password and signing in are two separate steps; this final sign-in is expected.
Back to sign in
Returns to the ordinary sign-in box. You can close the box and come back later, but a code or an already verified setup can expire while you are away. If it has expired, request another code. Nothing is changed until Save my password succeeds.
Several map types or a shared business account
One email and password cover the licences already attached to that address; there is no separate password for each map type. If GBMaps has linked your own email to another account’s licences, use your own email and verify your own inbox. Do not send another person your password or verification code.
