Add Name

Click on the green ‘Add Name’ button to reveal a text entry box. Enter the name of your first zone and click on the blue ‘Add’ button. The name will then appear in the legend in the top right hand corner of the map. You can now click on that name in the legend to select it and then click on any area on the map to colour it in. You can add 52 different names to the legend. Hitting the red ‘Del’ key will remove the name from the legend once it has been created.

X

Reduce or Enlarge Legend

If you have a large number of zone names in the legend, they may overlap onto the map as the legend increases in size. Clicking on the blue ‘Reduce Legend’ button will make the legend on the map smaller in size. The content will stay the same but it’s size will reduce. The opposite is true for the Enlarge Legend button.

X

Setting up the titles

To change the titles of the map or the legend simple enter the text you want to appear in the appropriate box and then click on the green ‘Update’ button. The related text on the map will then update.

Adding Circles to a Map

You can add any number of labelled concentric circles to a map. These are ideal for showing delivery charging zones where there is a different charge for a different distance from a central point. You can have as many circles as required within a group but you can only show one set of circles on each map.

N.B. The distance between circles isn't 100% precise. It is to be uses as a guide because the way the maps are scaled means it may be exactly 10 miles horizontally but not vertically. Just take the distance with a pince of salt.

This will be a big help page explainin gall there is to do with adding location markers to a map.

Add Images to a Map

Each image callout box can have its own individual settings. When you first upload an image and place it on the map it will be created with defaut settings e.g. black border; no call-out pointer etc.  When you change the settings for one image, the next time you create an image box it will take on the settings of the previously added one.  You can change the settings of an image box when the ‘sel’ radio button is selected for the image you wish to change.

N.B. The first thing you need to do in order to use images on your maps is to upload them from your computer to our server. To do this you need to click on the Upload New Images button.

X

Save, Import and Export Maps

Enter a unique name for your map in this edit box. When you click on the green ‘Save Your Map’ button the name will be stored with your map. You can change this name at any time but it will only be stored when you click on the save button.

If you are working on a map design and want to create a duplicate of the map as it currently stands and have 2 copies of that map then tick this box. When you’ve made more changes to the new version of the map, the older version stays the same as it was at the time you originally clicked the save as copy button.

You can import an Excel Spreadsheet(comma separated CSV file) into the currently open map and have the map automatically customised based on the data contained within the spreadsheet. More information on this is provided on the Import CSV Map page. The current map will be saved when you move to the import CSV page.

To export your map as a vector based pdf file suitable for emailing, downloading or sending directly to a commercial printers, click the green Export PDF Map button. This will save the current map as it currently stands and then export it as a pdf file. You will then be taken straight to the file-manger page where you can download the pdf file. You can select the output size of the pdf you want to create with the PDF Size dropdown box.

When saving a PDF file you can choose what size you want the pdf to be. Because PDF files are vector based it doesn't really matter what size you save the map because you could print an A4 map at A0 in size and no resolution or detail would be lost.

Filemanager will take you to see all your saves maps including pdf files, imported CSV files and imported dataset CSV files.

Import CSV Map

You can import an Excel Spreadsheet(comma separated CSV file) into the currently open map and have the map automatically customised based on the data contained within the spreadsheet.  More information on this is provided on the Import CSV Map page. The current map will be saved when you move to the import CSV page.

To import a map based on the contents of a spreadsheet it’s important that the data is formatted correctly otherwise it will not load correctly and you will end up spending ages trying to get it working properly.  Spend a few minutes making sure the data is correct and it will all go smoothly.  Firstly the spreadsheet is actually just a comma separated txt file with the file extension .CSV.  You could create this in notepad or another text editor but its much easier doing so with excel. Create the file exactly as described below in excel or another spreadsheet package and then click FILE -> SAVE AS and enter a filename and location for your file. Select the FILE-TYPE dropdown box just below where you entered the filename and select .CSV Comma Seperated TXT file(or its equivalent).

Your csv file is now ready to import into the mapping system.

Login to the mapping system so a map is on screen and unlocked. You will know this is the case because the login box will not be visible when a map is unlocked.  Now you can go down to the ‘Save, Import & Export’ menu item and click it.  Now click on the Blue ‘Import CSV Map’ button. You will be taken to a page with a single button on it ‘Upload CSV File’. Click on this and then select the CSV file from where you saved it on your computer. Click ok and then you will be returned to our site and the file name you selected will appear next to the ‘Upload CSV File’ button. This means the file was uploaded to our server successfully, now we have to process the file so it is compatible with the mapping system. Click on the ‘Upload’ button and wait a few seconds.  If everything was successful you will be told this and a button will appear allowing you to view the map you have just imported. Click on this button and you will be taken to your map. If everything went well you should see a nicely coloured in map with the key populated and some standard c olours selected.  You can customise and change anything about the map in the same way as you can when you create a new map.  If things didn’t go to plan there’s really only one reason for this: the CSV file wasn’t created properly. Go back and try again. The most likely problem was that there was extra data stored in the CSV file.  This can happen if you’ve taken a large spreadsheet and deleted some data then saved the result as a csv file.  You will likely get lots of extra redundant comma’s inside the file.  The easiest way to avoid this is to delete all the superfluous data from the spreadsheet leaving yourself with teh 2 columns you want, make sure the headings are exactly what you want them to be.  Then select just the data and column headings by dragging a box around them all then clicking ‘COPY’. Create a new blank worksheet and then click inside Column A Row 1 and click paste. Next click SAVE and save the file as a CSV file.  Make sure you don’t click in any other columns.  The CSV file you have now created should be as clean and properly formatted as it can be.  Try the import again from a new map and see how it goes. Once you’ve done it once, it will be easy to do it again and again.

What Are you Buying..

You are purchasing access to use our map customisation tool. With the tool you can produce an unlimited number of maps for your own personal use or your companies use.

The maps that you produce can be exported as vector based Adobe Acrobat PDF files. Once you’ve downloaded your map, it can be edited using software such as Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape should you require more editing than the system can provide.

You can also export a spreadsheet of the zones you’ve created while colouring your map, this can be very useful if you have the need for such a list.
Your purchase entitles you to use the system as often as you like and once purchased, you will have a username and password set which enables you to login from any internet enabled device that has a modern web browser including PC’s, Mac’s, iPhones, Android Devices or Tablets and TV’s.

The system works best with Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge. It also works with recent versions of Internet Explorer however some older versions of IE are a bit buggy.

Give the system a try first for free without paying anything and see if it does everything you want it to.

Not so ‘small print’ - You cannot use the system to create maps that are to be re-sold without contacting us first. You cannot swap or share your login details with friends or colleagues. You can share your completed maps with whoever you want but don’t give them access to your account.

X

Import Additional Data

You can import additional data into your maps by uploading a CSV spreadsheet containing your own information. Alternatively you can select from a list of inbuilt datasets such as population figures. Your own data could be something like sales figures for each postcode district or number of customers in each district, the possibilities are endless. More help is available on the Import data Page.

Customising the Borders and Labels

You can customise the look and feel of a map by changing the font colours, title colour, map border colour and the colours of the map background and the map boundary colours.
