Postcodes covered by dots & shapes

Large dots and imported shapes can be used as selection areas. The postcode tools test polygon centres, so the result is a practical area selection rather than an exact address coverage list.

The current panel, with its options expanded where useful. Select a numbered circle to read its explanation.
  1. Find postcodes

Open Postcodes & colouring and choose Find postcodes after drawing the dots. The result contains the map’s postcode polygons whose representative centres fall inside the shapes.

  2. Copy the postcode, zone list

Select the result text and copy it into a spreadsheet for checking or further work. A polygon can straddle a shape boundary; whether it is included depends on its centre.

  3. Colour postcodes

Applies the result as territory colouring. This changes the underlying polygon assignments, while the dots remain a separate layer. Review overlaps and the edges before saving the new design.

  4. The advanced equivalent

Manage dots & shapes in the advanced dialog has Find postcodes inside shapes and Colour areas, with a Postcode, shape postcode result list. Use that version when your coverage shapes were imported with their own row settings.
