# Share a saved map or embed it on your website Official GBMaps guide for the classic map maker. VectorMaps has a different interface. Source: https://www.gbmaps.com/mcs/map-help.php?topic=saved-map-sharing Updated: 2026-10-30 For a long-lived map link, use On Google beside a saved map in My maps. You can share that viewer address or embed it in your website while the corresponding map-tool licence remains valid. This is different from the editor’s two-hour Share map snapshot. ## 1. Save the map you want to share With a valid licence for that map type, save your editable map and wait for the saved confirmation. Open My maps / the saved-map manager using Open. If asked, save your latest changes first. This is the saved-map page, savesamplecopy.php; the On Google tab above the editor is a different route. Choose On Google beside the saved map Find the right map in Your Saved Maps, then choose the red On Google button in that row. It opens the geographic viewer separately. Check the map and its colours before sharing. Recipients view and explore this map; this does not give them your editable account or require them to buy their own unlock. Copy the viewer address Copy the address from the viewer’s browser address bar and paste it into your own email, message or website link. The usual address starts https://www.webmaps.co.uk/dev/gbm-embed/?id= followed by your saved map’s identifier. Copy the actual address opened for your map; do not guess its number or copy the editor, account or saved-map-manager address. The assistant can explain these steps but cannot generate or publish your map’s link for you. Put the actual saved-map viewer address in the iframe src. The example below fills the available width and is 600 pixels high; change the height to suit your page. Replace YOUR_SAVED_MAP_ID with the identifier from your own copied viewer address, or replace the whole src with that address. Preview the page on a phone and desktop. If your website editor removes iframes, ask its administrator to enable an embed block or use an ordinary link instead. ```html ``` [Open this step](https://www.gbmaps.com/mcs/map-help.php?topic=saved-map-sharing#saved-map-sharing--embed) ## 5. How long the shared map remains available The saved On Google link and website embed are available for as long as you have a valid licence for the corresponding map tool. They do not have the editor snapshot’s two-hour limit. “Permanent link” means a lasting saved-map address, not lifetime hosting without a licence. Keep the saved map and its licence in place; renew the access when it is due. An expired licence can prevent visitors from seeing the map. [Open this step](https://www.gbmaps.com/mcs/map-help.php?topic=saved-map-sharing#saved-map-sharing--licence) ## 6. Check the saved result before sharing changes Edit and save the original map when you need to change it, then reopen its On Google link and check what the viewer shows. Refresh an already-open viewer or embedded page. Do not expect a viewer to follow unsaved keystrokes, or assume every printed decoration appears in the geographic view. Save copy creates a separate map; use that copy’s own On Google address if it is the version you want to share. When to use the two-hour link instead On Google inside the editor also has Share map → Create a share link. That makes a separate public snapshot which expires two hours after creation, even if your licence is active. Use that for a quick preview; use the saved-map On Google address above for an ongoing website embed. An old two-hour snapshot is not converted into a lasting link by saving or renewing. Sharing a view or editing together Share only information you intend people with the link to see. A website embed or viewer link is for viewing, not for colleagues to edit your saved original. For shared editing, buy or upgrade to team access and invite each colleague to use their own login. Do not share your sign-in details.
